Jules is a freelance UX writer who shares a Brunswick rental with Banjo, an eight-year-old greyhound with strong opinions about wind. She moved down from Brisbane in 2017 for a job that no longer exists, stayed because Royal Park exists, and now writes the dog-and-laptop guide she would have killed for in her first Melbourne winter.
She tests every café entry herself: water bowl, shade for Banjo, wifi that survives a video call, and whether the staff genuinely like dogs or are just tolerating them. She’s been politely asked to leave one venue (Banjo barked at a delivery rider) and has stopped going to three more because the wifi was a lie.
Her pieces lean practical: bring this leash, this is the actual parking situation, the off-leash hours change in October. No “fur babies.” No emoji-overload. Just the kind of advice a friend gives you when you ask where you can take the dog and also send three emails.
Articles by Jules Okafor are based on first-hand visits with her dog. She pays for her own coffee. MELBZ does not accept sponsored content from venues or pet brands.
