Marco Bellini

MELBZ contributor on Melbourne for the over-50s — downsizing, retirement villages, walkable suburbs, where the second act actually works.

Marco spent thirty-two years in commercial real-estate valuation, the last decade of which he spent quietly arguing with retirees about why the apartment they wanted to buy was overpriced. He retired in 2023, downsized from a four-bedroom in Doncaster to a two-bed unit in Sandringham, and now writes for MELBZ about what that whole process is actually like.

He covers the unglamorous stuff: contract clauses in retirement-village agreements that nobody flags until you sign, which Bayside suburbs have a GP that takes new patients, the difference between a strata levy you can plan around and one that triples in year three. He’s diabetic, walks 8km most mornings along the foreshore, and has Strong Feelings about the level crossing removal at Mentone.

Marco doesn’t write for “seniors.” He writes for people in their late fifties and sixties who are still working, still travelling, and increasingly tired of websites that talk to them like they’re frail.

Articles by Marco Bellini draw on his own valuation career and current residence. He has no commercial relationship with any retirement-village operator or developer mentioned on MELBZ.
