Correction (10 October 2026): an earlier version of this page listed places and details we could not stand behind. It has been rewritten from scratch: every place below was confirmed at two independent sources on 9 October 2026.

Free first. This page covers five places in Point Cook: a museum, a library, a community centre, a marine sanctuary and a coastal trail.

Three carry a free line in an official source. Wyndham Council lists RAAF Museum admission as free and the library’s membership as free, and its What’s On listing calls the weekly Saltwater Art Studio a free resource. This page prints no fee for the sanctuary or the trail, so check the Parks Victoria pages before you go.

Every place was confirmed at two independent sources. Hours are credited to the page that printed them, and the museum needs a booking.

RAAF Museum — 480-490 Point Cook Road, Point Cook VIC 3030

The museum’s own page says it is open most Thursdays and Sundays from 10 am to 3 pm every week, and some additional days as advertised. Wyndham Council lists admission as free, with donations gratefully accepted. The museum says bookings are essential for all attendees, and that valid, verifiable photo identification is required for all visitors over the age of 16. It also says pets are prohibited on base, though registered assistance dogs are permitted.

Free first: The council lists admission as free, but bookings are essential, so book before you set off and bring photo ID if you are over 16.

Point Cook Library — 1-21 Cheetham Street, Point Cook VIC 3030

Wyndham lists the library’s hours as Monday to Thursday 10am to 8pm, Friday 10am to 6pm, Saturday 10am to 4pm and Sunday 1pm to 5pm, with the return chutes open 24/7. Wyndham’s libraries page says free membership gives access to thousands of books, magazines, movies, audiobooks and more. Facilities listed include a silent study room, 13 public access computers, printing, scanning and photocopying, and a bookable study room with free public wifi.

Rain backup: Wyndham lists a silent study room, a bookable study room and 13 public access computers, which makes the library an indoor plan whatever the weather.

Saltwater Community Centre — 153 Saltwater Promenade, Point Cook VIC 3030

Wyndham’s page lists open hours of Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm, so plan this one for a weekday. Saltwater Art Studio opens once a week as a free resource for artists, in the council’s words. The page also lists public Wi-Fi, an outdoor theatre and performance auditorium, and a Library Bookshelf where Wyndham City Libraries members can borrow up to 5 items at self-checkout.

Plan it: The listed hours cover Monday to Friday, so pair it with a weekday and check the council page for the art studio day before you go.

Point Cooke Marine Sanctuary — Point Cook Road, Point Cook VIC 3030

Parks Victoria says the sanctuary sits on the sheltered rocky shores of north-western Port Phillip. Its page calls it popular for beach walking, bird watching and sightseeing, and a great spot for scuba diving and snorkelling. It suggests exploring the beach at low tide and spotting the sea creatures that call the shoreline home. This page prints no entry fee or hours for it.

Time needed: Parks Victoria says to explore the beach at low tide, so plan around the tide rather than a fixed slot, and note its warning that the sanctuary is quite remote, so tell someone where you are going.

Bay Trail (Point Cook section) — Point Cook VIC 3030

Parks Victoria describes a continuous, off-road journey from Williamstown to Point Cook Coastal Park, with views of Port Phillip Bay and the Cheetham Wetlands along the way. Wyndham says its network includes shared paths and suggested routes, with links to the Wyndham Bay Trail from Hobsons Bay to Point Cook Coastal Park. It adds that the Sanctuary Lakes South Boulevard and Saltwater Coast Estate boardwalk connects the northern and southern sections. This page prints no fee for it.

Get there: Parks Victoria’s line is to walk, run or cycle to Point Cook Coastal Park along the Bay Trail, so you can start on foot or by bike rather than driving to a gate.
