This guide follows the road that carries the suburb’s name, and then steps over the borders. Two of the kitchens below are on Toorak Road at its South Yarra end, and the other two are in neighbouring Malvern and Armadale. All four publish a menu or ordering page you can read before you ring, which is the test every place here had to pass.
Community context: at the 2021 Census, 239 Toorak residents, or 1.9 per cent, were born in India, against 4.0 per cent across Victoria as a whole. Three of the four kitchens below say on their own sites that they deliver, and one of them names Toorak in its delivery areas.
The precinct: Wikipedia describes Toorak Road as the suburb’s main street, with Toorak bordered by South Yarra at Williams Road, Malvern at Glenferrie Road, and Prahran and Armadale at Malvern Road. Search for Indian takeaway in Toorak and that is the map you are really working with, so this is an honest “in and around” list rather than a Toorak-only one. Menus change, so give the ordering page a squiz on the day.

Spice Affair — 248 Toorak Road, South Yarra VIC 3141
Spice Affair Curry and Bar says it brings Indian cooking “to the heart of Toorak Road”, and its menu starts low. Lunch Deal 1, a curry with rice, starts at $10.00; a potato samosa is $3.50 a piece; butter chicken starts at $19.00; lamb rogan josh starts at $21.50; chicken biryani starts at $18.00; and a garlic naan is $3.50. Its website lists Toorak among its delivery areas, and its trading hours show it closed on Wednesdays.
On the menu: chole bhatura ($15.00) is two puffed, deep-fried breads served with a spiced chickpea curry, onion salad and pickle, a Punjabi favourite that eats like brunch.
If you are looking for The Yarra Indian: its website and Spice Affair’s list the same phone number, +61 3 9827 6873, and carry the same ABN in their page code, and the Australian Business Register lists both business names under one company. The Yarra Indian’s own site, which is still live, prints Unit 3/180 Toorak Rd, while its OzFoodHunter ordering page gives 248 Toorak Rd, so ring that number first to check which address to use.

D Hall of Flames — 308 Toorak Rd, South Yarra VIC 3141
If you remember Spice Club at this address: the restaurant here now trades as D Hall of Flames, its own site describes it as “Continuing the Spice Club Legacy”, and it calls itself a modern Indian restaurant. The menu gives classic dishes new names, so the butter chicken is listed as Red Velvet at $27.30, the slow-cooked black lentils with butter and cream, dal makhani in all but name, as Buttery Lentil ($26.80), and the diced lamb in Kashmiri chilli, yoghurt and onion gravy, a rogan josh by any other name, simply as Rogan ($28.80). Its drinks list runs from prosecco to bourbon.
On the menu: fuchka pani puri ($16.90 for five) are hollow, crisp-fried shells you fill with potato and chickpeas and flood with tangy spiced water, then eat in one bite before they go soft.
Breads and rice are priced separately: a plain naan is $8.90 and the murgh or lamb biryani is $27.90, so budget accordingly if you are ordering for a group.

Moti Mahal — 71 Glenferrie Rd, Malvern VIC 3144
Moti Mahal is on Glenferrie Road in Malvern, the suburb that meets Toorak along that road, and its own website says it has been serving Indian food “since 1983”. The menu leans Mughlai, the rich, nut-and-cream cooking associated with the old royal kitchens of Delhi. Butter chicken is $25.00, dal makhani $20.00, garlic naan $6.00, and the samosa chaat, a crushed samosa under yoghurt and tamarind chutney, is $14.00.
On the menu: murg biryani ($24.00) is basmati rice layered with chicken, nuts and yakhni, a spiced stock, and cooked so the rice soaks up the flavour rather than being stirred through a curry.
For takeaway, the site says it delivers up to 6 km by road from the restaurant and offers free delivery within 2 km on orders over $50, and its street-food list includes panipuri at $12.00.

Baahubali Indian Restaurant — Unit 6/1097 High St, Armadale VIC 3143
The one kitchen on this list with a full South Indian dosa section, in Armadale, which meets Toorak at Malvern Road. Its online menu is organised into Dosa Specials, Rava Dosa, Uthappam and Idly & Vada, alongside curries, tandoori and biryani, with a Thursday-only biryani night deal. Its prices are filled in by the ordering page’s script rather than published as text, so we could not copy them and none are quoted here.
On the menu: a dosa is a thin crepe of fermented rice and lentil batter cooked until crisp; rava dosa is a lacier version made with semolina, and uthappam is a thicker, softer pancake with toppings cooked into it.
Its website lists hours of Tuesday to Sunday, 5pm to 10pm, closed Monday, and a 15 km delivery radius.
