Things To Do This Weekend in Coburg 2026: Sydney Road & Beyond
Coburg doesn’t try to impress you. That’s what makes it impressive.
While Brunswick gets the weekend foodie write-ups and Preston is building a foodie renaissance, Coburg sits between them doing its own thing — better coffee than it gets credit for, a pub scene that actually has personality, and some of the most underrated green spaces in Melbourne’s inner north. This is the suburb that turned a former prison into a brunch destination and didn’t even blink.
Here’s how to do a full weekend in Coburg without repeating a single venue.

Saturday Morning
9:00am — Breakfast at Beit Siti Start your weekend at Coburg’s most talked-about new opening. Beit Siti serves one thing: a Palestinian sofra breakfast. It’s a communal platter of hummus, labneh, zaatar flatbread, falafel, grilled halloumi, pickled vegetables, fresh tomatoes, olives, boiled eggs, and Arabic coffee. $22 per person. No modifications. No à la carte. Just show up and eat.
Pro tip: Get there before 9am on weekends or prepare to queue. There are no bookings. The queue is part of the experience — everyone in it knows they’re about to eat something special.
10:30am — Walk the Merri Creek Trail Work off breakfast with a walk along the Merri Creek Trail. The path runs along Coburg’s western edge and connects to a network stretching from the Yarra to the north. It’s flat, separated from traffic, and genuinely beautiful — especially in spring when the wildflowers are out.
Options:
- Head north toward Coburg Lake Reserve for a longer walk
- South toward Brunswick for a shorter loop
- Stop at Jewell Station for coffee at a cafe in the old station building
12:30pm — Lunch at Zaatar By now you’re hungry again. Zaatar is a Middle Eastern bakery where everything is fresh, huge, and under $10. The zaatar pies are the size of your forearm and cost $7. The folded focaccias are similarly massive. This is the kind of lunch that fuels your whole afternoon.
Address: 240 Sydney Road, Coburg VIC 3058 Hours: Daily 7am–6pm
Saturday Afternoon
1:30pm — Explore the Pentridge Precinct The old Pentridge Prison site has been transformed into a cultural and dining precinct. Walk through the bluestone buildings, check out the public art installations, and browse the small retail spaces.
Must-visit:
- The Boot Factory — The old boot-making workshop is now a heritage-listed brunch spot. Even if you’re not eating, the architecture is worth seeing.
- North & Common — The fine-dining restaurant inside the precinct. Peek through the windows at the elegant fit-out.
- The new craft brewery taproom — Opened in 2025, brewing on-site with a focus on lager and hop-forward ales.
3:00pm — Coffee at Wild Timor Wild Timor Coffee is part cafe, part social enterprise. Every bag of beans sold supports Timorese farming communities. The coffee is excellent — especially the pour-over single origins — and the space is unpretentious.
Address: 266 Sydney Road, Coburg VIC 3058 Hours: Mon–Fri 7am–4pm, Sat–Sun 8am–3pm
Saturday Evening
5:30pm — Drinks at Gemini Melbourne Gemini is Coburg’s newest bar and already one of its best. It’s a neighbourhood bar and pantry where the cocktails are well-made ($18–$22), the wine list is interesting, and the pantry section sells local olive oils, preserves, and specialty ingredients.
Address: 158 Sydney Road, Coburg VIC 3058 Hours: Wed–Thu 4pm–11pm, Fri–Sat 4pm–1am
7:00pm — Dinner at Rosa Restaurant Rosa is the kind of Italian restaurant that Reddit consistently calls “the most underrated restaurant in the inner north.” It’s small (maybe 30 seats), warm, and serves house-made pasta that’s genuinely excellent. The burrata starter is creamy and fresh, the ragu is slow-cooked and rich, and the tiramisu is properly made.
Address: 204 Sydney Road, Coburg VIC 3058 Hours: Wed–Sun 5:30pm–10pm, closed Mon–Tue Pro tip: Book ahead for Friday and Saturday. Wednesday and Thursday are the secret nights where you’ll get more attention from the staff.
Saturday Night
9:00pm — Drinks at Strangeloves Wine Bar Strangeloves is Coburg’s answer to the Brunswick wine bar scene — low-lit, intimate, with a focus on natural and minimal-intervention wines from small Australian producers. The music is always interesting (never top 40, never so loud you can’t talk), and the cheese and charcuterie boards are simple and well-made.
Address: 180 Sydney Road, Coburg VIC 3058 Hours: Thu–Sat 4pm–11pm, Sun 2pm–8pm
11:00pm — Late-night snack at Melbourne Kebab Station If you’re still out, Melbourne Kebab Station stays open until midnight and serves full kebab plates for about $13. It’s the kind of post-pub stop that’s better than most late-night options in the CBD.
Address: 490 Sydney Road, Coburg VIC 3058 Hours: Daily 10am–midnight
Sunday Morning
9:00am — Coffee and pastry at Two Franks Two Franks is a neighbourhood cafe run by two sisters who grew up in Coburg. The coffee is good, the cinnamon twists are exceptional, and the vibe is the kind of warm familiarity that makes you feel like a regular on your first visit.
Address: 300 Sydney Road, Coburg VIC 3058 Hours: Tue–Sun 7am–3pm, closed Mondays
10:00am — Market stroll If it’s the first or third Sunday of the month, check out the Coburg Farmers Market at Coburg North Primary School. It’s one of Melbourne’s best farmers markets — fresh produce, local producers, and a community vibe that’s hard to beat.
If it’s not market day:
- Walk Sydney Road and browse the independent shops
- Visit the Salvos op shop for vintage finds
- Check out the new retail spaces in the Pentridge precinct
Sunday Afternoon
12:30pm — Lunch at Al Alamy Al Alamy is a Lebanese spot near Coburg Station that does excellent manoush and Lebanese pizza. The cheese and zaatar pizza is $8 and the size of a dinner plate. Add a coffee for $3 and you’ve got a lunch that costs less than a coffee and muffin at some inner-city cafes.
Address: 350 Sydney Road, Coburg VIC 3058 Hours: Daily 7am–8pm
2:00pm — Park time Coburg has some genuinely excellent green spaces:
- Batman Park — The biggest park in Coburg, with a playground, walking paths, and the Merri Creek trail running through it.
- Jewell Station Reserve — A small pocket park near Jewell Station, perfect for a quiet Sunday afternoon.
- Bridges Reserve — On Bell Street, hosts the annual Coburg Night Market in summer.
4:00pm — Dessert at Trivelli Cakes Trivelli is an Italian cake shop that’s been operating since 1965. The cannoli are life-changing — crisp shell, fresh ricotta filling, properly made. The cartocci (Italian doughnuts filled with custard and ricotta cream) are an entire breakfast disguised as a snack.
Address: 316 Sydney Road, Coburg VIC 3058 Hours: Tue–Sat 8am–5pm, Sun 9am–3pm, closed Mondays
Sunday Evening
6:00pm — Early dinner at The Boot Factory If you missed The Boot Factory earlier in the weekend, Sunday evening is a good time to visit. The heritage space is beautiful in the afternoon light, and they do a dinner service that’s more relaxed than the weekend brunch rush.
Address: 1/19 Pentridge Boulevard, Coburg VIC 3058 Hours: Mon–Fri 7:30am–3pm, Sat–Sun 8am–3pm (dinner Wed–Sat from 5:30pm)
7:30pm — Movie at Coburg Drive-In If you’re feeling nostalgic or just want something different, the Coburg Drive-In is one of Melbourne’s last remaining drive-in cinemas. It’s about 10 minutes from the Sydney Road strip and shows current releases. Pack a blanket, grab some snacks, and watch a movie from your car.
Address: 155 Newlands Road, Coburg North VIC 3058 Hours: Sessions start at sundown
If You’ve Got Kids
Coburg is surprisingly good for families:
- Coburg Leisure Centre — Swimming pool, gym, and kids’ programs
- Batman Park playground — One of the best playgrounds in the inner north
- Coburg Library — Storytime sessions, kids’ activities, and a great children’s section
- Coburg North Primary School Farmers Market — Kid-friendly with food trucks and activities
If It Rains
Melbourne weather is unpredictable. If it’s raining:
- Coburg Library — Free, warm, and has a good kids’ section
- Pentridge precinct — Most of the spaces are indoors or covered
- Trivelli Cakes — Sit inside with a coffee and a cannoli and watch the rain
- My Aeon — Check their social media for indoor events and gigs
How Coburg Compares
Coburg’s weekend vibe is different from its neighbours. Brunswick is louder, busier, and more likely to have a festival or market happening. Preston is building its own weekend scene but is quieter and more spread out. Coburg North is more industrial and emerging.
What Coburg offers is a weekend that feels like a break from the city without actually leaving it. You can have excellent coffee, great food, interesting drinks, and genuine community without the crowds or the hype. It’s the suburb that doesn’t try to impress you — and that’s exactly why people love it.
