The Best Things To Do This Weekend in Windsor
Windsor weekends are for Chapel Street crawls, park picnics with pizza, long brunches that stretch into arvo coffees, and nights that start with cocktails and end somewhere you didn’t plan. This is where the suburb comes alive — the footpaths fill, the bars hum, the parks are full of people who’ve brought takeaway coffee and a good book.
Here’s your weekend in Windsor, from Friday arvo to Sunday night.
Friday: Kick-Off the Weekend
4–6pm: Start with a happy hour. Wonderland Bar ($7 pots, $12 wine) or Chapel St Cellars (rotating specials) are your best bets. Friday happy hour is still alive in Windsor, even if it’s dying elsewhere on Chapel Street.
7pm: Dinner somewhere that doesn’t require a booking three weeks out. Lah Bros ($22 thali) or Small Print Pizza ($19 margherita) are excellent, reasonably priced options that you can usually walk into. If you want something nicer, tipico is the reliably good choice.
9pm: Pre-drinks at The Wolf (bifold doors open, good energy) or Her Bar (if you want something quieter and more intimate). Alternatively, grab a bottle from Chapel St Cellars and drink it in the beer garden ($10 corkage).
11pm: If you’re still standing, Hoo Haa for dancing or Jungle Boy for tiki cocktails in a hidden space. Or just stay at The Wolf if you’ve found a good spot on the bifold doors.
Saturday: The Full Windsor Experience
8am: Beat the brunch rush at Staple (opens 8am) or Cheeky Monkey (opens 7am). A quiet breakfast before the chaos.
10am: If you missed the early start, brace for the Franklin queue. Or try Two Birds One Stone on Claremont Street — usually shorter wait and just as good food.
12pm: Coffee and a wander. Hit High Society for the florist-cafe vibe, then walk the length of Chapel Street in one direction. Pop into the boutiques, check out the market stalls if they’re out, window-shop the shoe stores.
2pm: Arvo session at The Osborne Rooftop or The Wolf. A beer in the sun, people-watching, recovery from the morning.
4pm: Grab takeaway pizza from Small Print (they’ll bring it to Victoria Gardens park for you) or a thali from Lah Bros to eat in the park. Sunday roast at The Windsor Castle if you’re into that (book ahead).
6pm: Get ready for dinner. This is the peak — every restaurant in Windsor is alive. If you haven’t booked, your best chances are Hawker Hall (larger space, more tables) or the bar at Firebird.
8pm: Dinner. Firebird for spicy Vietnamese birds, Maha East for Middle Eastern sharing plates, Tombo Den for izakaya upstairs. Choose based on mood and wallet.
10pm: Post-dinner drinks. Hoo Haa if you want to stay moving, Jungle Boy if you want something hidden, The Osborne rooftop if the weather’s good. Borsch if you want to keep it Eastern European and bohemian.
1am: Late-night munchies. Punt Road kebab shops or Lucky Coq if you’re still hungry and they’re still open.
Sunday: Slow Day, Still Fun
9am: Brunch, but the Sunday session brunch. Franklin (opens 8am) or Two Birds One Stone. The vibe is relaxed — Saturday’s panic is gone.
11am: Coffee and a wander. Victoria Gardens park is full of families and dog walkers. Grab a coffee from Fourth Chapter or Mr Mister and walk the strip.
1pm: Arvo drinks at The Railway Hotel’s deck. Sun, fresh air, and a pot. The deck catches afternoon light perfectly.
3pm: If the weather’s good, head to the park with takeaway. If it’s crappy (let’s be honest, it could be), find a pub with a fireplace. The Windsor Alehouse has one.
5pm: Sunday roast at The Windsor Castle if you booked ahead ($24 with all the trimmings). Or a chill dinner at Wonderland if you want something casual.
7pm: Early night? Or one more drink at The Wolf to round out the weekend. Your call.
Weekend Events and Markets
Victoria Gardens Market — Often runs on Saturdays, 10am–4pm. Local producers, crafts, food stalls. Quality varies but it’s a good atmosphere.
Live Music — The Wolf, Hoo Haa, and The Osborne all have DJs or live acts on weekends. Check their socials for who’s playing.
Quiz Nights — Lucky Coq runs quiz nights on Tuesday, but sometimes weekend specials too. Better Days runs board game tournaments Thursday nights.
Sunday Sessions — The Osborne rooftop has DJs Sunday arvo. Wonderland has happy hour all day Sunday. The Railway Hotel deck is always a solid Sunday choice.
What to Skip on Weekends
Anything requiring reservations after 6pm on Saturday — Unless you booked weeks ago, you’re waiting. Friday and Sunday are easier.
Shopping on Chapel Street Saturday 11am–3pm — It’s a zoo. Go weekday mornings or Sunday arvo.
Cycling on Chapel Street any time after 10am Saturday — Traffic is chaos, bike lanes are blocked. Take a side street.
Weather Plan
Windsor’s weekend plans live and die by the weather. Have a backup:
- Rainy day: Move from park to indoor bars. Her Bar, Jungle Boy, Hoo Haa (all indoors), Borsch (warm and bohemian), the Railway Hotel’s interior.
- Hot day: Rooftop bars (Osborne), outdoor seating at The Wolf, High Society’s terrace, Victoria Gardens park in the shade.
- Cold day: Pubs with fireplaces — The Windsor Alehouse, The Railway Hotel’s interior. Indoor bars with heating.
Family-Friendly Weekend Options
Windsor isn’t just for adults. If you’ve got kids:
- Victoria Gardens park — Playground, shade, space to run.
- Cafes with outdoor seating — Franklin, High Society, Staple all welcome families.
- Daytime pub meals — The Railway Hotel, The Wolf, Wonderland all serve food and are kid-friendly before 6pm.
- Sunday roast — The Windsor Castle does family-friendly Sunday lunch.
Avoid the bars after 7pm — most are 18+ only and the atmosphere isn’t child-appropriate.
Dog-Friendly Weekend
Dogs are welcome at most Windsor cafes with outdoor seating and many pubs with beer gardens. Bring your pooch to:
- Staple (outdoor tables)
- The Wolf (bifold doors mean dogs can come and go)
- Wonderland (massive beer garden)
- Victoria Gardens park (obviously)
Just keep them leashed and under control. Some venues restrict dogs inside — check ahead.
